Bertha M. King, residing for many years at 521 Sheridan Drive, Junction City, KS, passed away on Thursday evening, December 13, 2012 at the Geary Community Hospital. She came to Junction City in 1960 for the first time, stationed with her husband, Hubert H. King at Fort Riley. After a tour of duty in Alaska, they retired in Junction City.
Born 4 September 1924, in San Marcial, New Mexico, "Bert", as her many friends knew her, was in her early life an LPN nurse and worked as a "Geary Lady" also donating much time to the care of the elderly.
She travelled the world as an Army Officer's wife and had many stories and memories that she would readily impart to those who knew her.
She is remembered by her two children, Linda Cody of Colorado Springs, CO and Robert King of Junction City, KS. She is also remembered by the children she raised from Mr. King's previous marriage: Ronald King of San Antonio, TX and Sharon Sue Swartz of Los Angeles, CA.
Her wishes were to be cremated and the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. No services are being planned at this time and any memorial contributions may be made to the University of Kansas Endowment for Basic Cancer Research, PO Box 928, Lawrence, KS 66044-0928.
