Bertha Cameron, 98, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Highland Cemetery in Junction City. The Reverend Dr. Dyton L. Owen will officiate. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2018, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street. Bertha was born on October 24, 1919, on a farm in Eastern Geary County, KS to William Joseph and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Olson) Turnbull. She went to Rosey School until 1932 when her parents moved to Morris County. She later attended Stone Chapel Grade School then attended Junction City High School. In the 1930's, she had to work her way through school in Junction City to earn money for her room and board. Her work entailed caring for a family of six children and working in the school cafeteria during the lunch hour.
Bertha worked with her husband Orville as dairy farmers. In 1973, Bertha went to work for USD 475 in Junction City as a cook and baker having retired in 1997. For many years, Bertha watched children and did ironing for people. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City where she was baptized April 22, 1962.
On August 11, 1938, she married Orville "Bud" Cameron in Clay Center, KS. He passed away April 23, 2000.
Survivors include one son, Allen Cameron of Mountain View, MO; two daughters, Ruth Dishman of Junction City, KS and Betty Lou Wondra of Concordia, KS; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Orville; two sons, Gary Cameron and Freddie Cameron; four sisters, Katherine, Alice, Mary and Elsie; three brothers, Ole, Andrew and Walter.
