Bernitta Mae Heskett, 91, Junction City, died Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Geary Community Hospital surrounded by her family.
Bernitta was born June 8, 1917, in Lincoln, Kansas the daughter of Linn and Nellie (Hickey) Garner.
For many years Bernitta had a Civil Service career working at Fort Riley in the Laundry Department. She was also a homemaker and member of the Eagles Lodge. Bernitta was one of the first residents in Grandview Plaza and at the time of her death was one of the oldest residents.
She married LeRoy E. Heskett August 26, 1957 in Junction City. He died in 1981.
Survivors include two sons, Delbert Wacker of Garnett, Kan and Jerry Wacker of Albuquerque, NM and two daughters, Rosie Hahn of Girard, OH and Betsy Van Coonis of Wichita, Kan. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by one brother Linley Garner of Licking, MO.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Nellie Darlene Mann, Caroline Cooper and Lorna Green. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009, at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinit Funeral Chapel with Reverend Darel Boston officiating. A visitation will be 6 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Milford Cemetery.
