August 18, 1926 — April 26, 2020

Bernice Dennis, 93, of Junction City, KS, passed away on April 26, 2020. Cremation has taken place. Friends can pay their respects Friday, May 8, 2020, from 3:00 pm. to 5:00 pm. at the Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City at 203 N. Washington Street.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd. Topeka, KS 66604.

Bernice was born on August 18, 1926, in Dallas, Texas to James and Annie (McCarthy) Dennis. She attended Lincoln High School and after her graduation, she earned an associates degree in the personal care services. She then moved to Junction City, Kansas, and became an independent business owner. She owned and operated a barber shop and liquor store. Bernice had also contracted with Fort Riley to be a barber for soldiers.

She enjoyed gardening and fashion and was a member of Ward AME Chapel of Junction City.

Bernice is survived by her loving family: her sister, Lee Gilmore of Dallas, TX; her close family friends, Freddie and wife Cassandra Edwards of Junction City, KS, and Patricia McDonald of Junction City, KS; many nieces and nephews; and a host of loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Annie Dennis and Ophelia Furlow, Flora Smith, and her brother, J.W. Dennis.
