There will be a celebration of Bernd's life on the eve of his 87th birthday: Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the All Faiths/Danforth Chapel on the Kansas State University campus at 7:30. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.

Bernd attended Columbia University and got his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati and Master of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) where he was an instructor, assistant and associate professor before becoming a professor and acting dean. In 1971 he became the Professor and Dean of College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University. His academic honors included: SCARAB, architectural honor society; Tau Sigma Delta, architecture and design honor society, Phi Kappa Phi, academic honor society, Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture Distinguished Professor; National Council for Preservation Education James Marston Fitch Lifetime Achievement Award; in 1996, Kansas State University named a 250 seat lecture hall "Foerster Auditorium" in Bernd's honor and Kansas State University bestowed its Distinguished Service Award.
Predeceased by his parents (Joseph Foerster and Marta Brumm Foerster) and youngest son Mark.
His wife of sixty years, Enell survives as does his eldest son Kent, his wife Beth Regier Foerster, grandchildren Anna Kathryn Foerster and Kelly Mulvihill and her husband John Mulvihill and two great grandchildren Bryce Foerster Mulvihill and Brooke Elizabeth Mulvihill.
