Bennie Edward Johnson, age 82, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away peacefully in his sleep during the evening of Saturday, December 3, 2011. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Junction City, KS. No services are planned. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Alzheimer's Association, 736 Federal Street, Davenport, IA 52803.
Bennie was born to Tempe Danage and Simon Johnson Sr. on February 7, 1929 in Scott, MS. He lived in Peoria, IL for most of his life. First married to Minnie Mae Robinson with whom he raised a family for more than 25 years.
He later married Sandy Davis on December 10, 1987.
He was a business minded man gifted in many ways. He and his wife Sandra owned and operated Hit City Records & Tapes and Johnson & Son's Records and Tapes in Peoria, IL, but his greatest passion was asphalt construction. He worked many years for Peoria Blacktop and Ritschel Blacktop Companies. In 1987 they started another company, Asphalt Construction that they operated until retiring and moving to Davenport, Iowa in 1995 where they lived 15 years. He moved to Junction City, KS in 2009 with his wife who has cared for him since 2003 when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
He is survived by his wife Sandra L. of Junction City, Kansas, six sons: Rudolph Scott Johnson, Michael (Jackie) Robinson, Steven Robinson, Gary (Diana C.) Johnson, Richard "Ricky" Johnson and Terry Johnson; six daughters: Pearlie (Emmitt) Williams, Mary Robinson, Yolanda (Ron) Stevenson, Arletha "Lisa" Johnson, Valerie Johnson and Tammy Johnson; six brothers: Huard, Edward, Simon Jr., Earnest, Joe Lee and Frank Johnson; five Sisters: Carolyn, Mary Ann, Alberta, Francis and Joyce Johnson and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, he is also survived by a very special cousin Alberta Turner with whom he was raised.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Sr. and Tempe Danage, two sons, Shellie Robinson and Larry Robinson, one brother, Harold Johnson and aunt and uncle, Ann & Bester "Junior" Danage, Jr.
