Memorial services for Benjamin Charles Manning, 88,Junction City, KS will be held, Thursday, June 19, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church Pastor Darel Boston will officiate. He died June 14, 2003 at Valley View Professional Care Center. No visitation will be held, cremation is planned. Burial will be at Fort Riley Cemetery w/full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 1429 St. Mary's Road, Junction City, KS 66441. Benjamin was born December 13, 1914, at Ratcliff, TX to Benjamin Harrison and Grace Madeline (Storn) Manning. Benjamin married Winnie O. Whitfield October 5, 1940 at San Antonio, TX; she preceded him in death February 21, 1970. Benjamin served in the United States Army. He retired after 22 years of service. He later worked for Central National Bank. Benjamin was a past master of the Masonic Lodge #7, past Patron of the Melita Chapter #116 OES, past High Priest of the Junction City Chapter #17, past
Commander of the Junction City Commandery #43 Knights of Templar, past President of the North Central Kansas Retired Officers Association, Ellsworth Council #9, member of the Knights of Mecca, Isis Shrine, Chaplain of the Voiture Locale #1029 40 and 8, Post #45 American Legion, Noon Kiwanis Club, Volunteered at the Geary County Head Start Program, and received a lifetime member award from the PTA. Benjamin was the recipient of the bronze medal and the purple heart. Survivors: One Son: Benjamin C. Manning, Jr. of Olney, VA; Two Sisters: Helen Moore of New Orleans, LA, and Loreece Shuggs of Lake Jackson, TX; One Son-In-Law: Art McKenna, of Overland Park, KS; Eight Grandchildren, and Five Great-Grandchildren.
