Barbara Anne Roberts

Barbara Anne Roberts, age 72, passed away at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS on Friday December 23, 2016 surrounded by family. Barbara had struggled bravely with breast cancer since 2014.
Barbara was born to Robert and Shirley Beals in South Bend, IN on October 10, 1944. She was raised in Dodge City and after graduating from Dodge City High School in 1962, attended Cottey College in Nevada, MO and later Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. Barbara belonged to the Delta Zeta Sorority and completed her Bachelor's degree with a major in Psychology.
On August 20, 1966, she married Joel Richard "Rick" Roberts. Barbara and Rick traveled the United States with the U.S. Air Force, living periodically in California and Oklahoma. They returned to Dodge City after Rick's discharge from the Air Force and eventually settled in the Junction City/Milford area, where they raised two children.
Barbara was primarily a homemaker throughout her life but engaged in a variety of business pursuits in which she made many friends. Barbara was dedicated to helping mothers and children, and she pursued this calling through active participation in La Leche League and substitute teaching in Geary County. She served her community by working for the Election Board and volunteering at the Junction City Opera House.
Barbara loved learning, especially about natural medicine, and was an avid reader (sci-fi, paranormal, and conspiracy themes). She enjoyed traveling, watching movies, and playing bridge. She also loved cats, horses, and animals of all kinds.
Barbara always made time for the people she loved and did what she could to support her friends and family. She will be remembered most for her nurturing spirit, beautiful smile, and desire to share knowledge with others.
Barbara is survived by her loving family: son, Nathan A. and wife Anne Roberts of St. Joseph, MO; daughter, Rebecca L. Roberts-Kerns and husband Jason Kerns of Kenosha, WI; sister, Janalee E. Beals and husband Paul Skinner of North Richland Hills, TX; and niece, Elizabeth J. and husband Aaron Starr of Applegate, CA.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley J. Beals; father, Robert C. Beals; and husband, Joel R. (Rick) Roberts.
A visitation and service of remembrance will be held on January 29, 2017 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the C.L. Hoover Opera House, where friends can share stories and memories of Barbara. Light refreshments will be provided.
A memorial service will be held at St. Xavier Catholic Church Monday January 30, 2017 at 11am. Private inurnment will be held at a later time.
