She grew up on the farm in Barnes, Ks. and survived the great flood of 1951. The family was forced to move to Junction City, Ks., where she attended Junction City Senior High School. She met Pascual Edmonson and they married in Salina, Ks. and had 4 children. Barbara was a very loving and caring mother, who took in and provided a home for many children throughout her lifetime. She was very dedicated to her job and never missed a day of work, which taught her children the value of a strong work ethic.

Barbara worked for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service for 34 years as an accounting technician before retiring in 1992, in the Fort Riley Executive Offices of the accounting Department. She began her career as temporary part time Christmas help at the Fort Riley main store. She even did a short stint as a waitress at the main post snack bar. Most of her career was spent in the bad check division where she was recognized with the Excellence Award for collecting well over a million dollars in bad checks and fees. Under her direction, future financial losses to AAFES was prevented.

Barbara enjoyed sewing, fishing and tending her garden. She was proud of the many different varieties of flowers and vegetables she was successful at growing. She passed the love of gardening on to all her family.
