Auguster Davis Sr., 94, of Junction City, KS, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015. He was born November 14, 1920, in Como, Mississippi.
He is survived by wife Mirriam "Ana" Davis. His legacy continues through daughter Lolly (Jeff) Hetherington and sons Auguster "Gus" Davis, Jr., Jessie (Vanessa) Davis and Roland Davis in addition to grandchildren Linda, Michael, Leslie, Andrea, Nicola, Mark and Jackie and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wife Marina Davis in 1998, sister Louise Miller and parents Jack and Dale Davis.
Sergeant Davis was a WWII veteran and lifetime member of the William Leroy Talbot, Post #8773 Veteran of Foreign Wars. With over 29 years of honorable service, Sgt. Davis proudly dedicated himself to his country. He served bravely in Europe, Vietnam, Korea, the Philippines and Indochina, receiving numerous accolades which include the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Award (3) and the Overseas Service Bar (5). He met his wife Marina during his tour of duty in the Philippines.
During his military service, Sgt. Davis and family lived in Petersburg, VA, and Ft. Richardson, AK, before settling down in Junction City, KS. This is the place where life-long friendships were nurtured, family was celebrated and memories were made (many at Milford Lake). At the same time, family and friends in his hometown in Mississippi had a special place in his heart and he often returned home to visit and share his blessings.
Visitation will take place 6-8 p.m. (vigil service at 7 p.m.) on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS 66441. Funeral will take place at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015, at the St. Xavier Catholic Church and burial at Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Xavier Catholic Church.
