Aubrey A. Small , 101, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Chapman Valley Manor in Chapman, KS. A funeral service will be 10 a.m.Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim McCall officiating. A visitation will take place 5-7 PM Monday, November 11, 2019, at the Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral service at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church 630 S. Eisenhower Drive Junction City, KS 66441.
Aubrey was born August 13, 1918, near Clarks Creek in Geary County the son of John R. and Martha C. (Turnbull) Small.
Aubrey worked for Highland Cemetery for twenty five years. He later worked for the State of Kansas Department of Transportation as a maintenance worker until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who fought in World War II. He was wounded in the war and was treated in England. He was discharged from the Army in 1945.
Aubrey was a woodworker. He was known for his wooden crosses. He has a wooden cross that hangs in Immanuel Lutheran Church. He has made numerous wooden crosses over the years for many people. He has also built furniture and two homes.
He married Alice Seley July 29, 1940. She passed away June 21, 2002.
Survivors include three sons, Francis "Frank" Small and his wife Henrietta of Junction City, KS, Gerald A. Small and wife Elizabeth of Minneapolis, KS and Aubrey E. Small and his wife Patricia of Junction City, KS; one daughter, Lynette A. Fuchs of Junction City, KS; one brother, Herbert Small of Junction City, KS; three sisters, Lola Sells of Ben Wheeler, TX, Ruby Reynolds of Orange Lake, FL and Viola Schacher of Columbus, NE; thirteen grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
