Arthur W. "Archie" Moore, Jr.

MSG (RET) Arthur W. "Archie" Moore Jr., 81, of Junction City, Kansas died on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024 at First Christian Church in Junction City. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2024 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Circle A Club, Inc. P.O. Box 3175 Junction City, Kansas 66441. It is strongly encouraged for everyone attending the funeral, to wear their favorite sports team attire.

Archie was born March 2, 1943, in Brockton, Massachusetts the son of Arthur W. and Constance (Rodrigues) Moore, Sr.

Archie served twenty four and a half years in the United States Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and spent time in Germany. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. Archie was awarded many awards, honors, and special recognitions for his service. He received his associates degree from Central Texas College.

Archie started his sobriety journey December 29, 1985. He was sober thirty eight years, six months, twenty seven days for a total of 14,089 days. He helped hundreds of people with their sobriety walk throughout the years all across the world. On a local level, Archie spent many hours leading many Alcoholic Anonymous Meetings in Junction City, Geary County and Fort Riley.

Over the years, Archie was a die hard sports fan. He rooted on all teams from Boston. He proudly supported his Boston sports teams by wearing appropriate swag and sporting their flag on his car.

He had a love for bowling, fishing and running. He would always tease people he was training for the Boston Marathon. He was a known collector. His collection included coins, stamps, sports cards and sports memorabilia.

Archie was a charitable giver to numerous charitable organizations. He loved helping people and communicating his love through letters and cards that he would send. He never missed a friend or family members birthday, anniversary or special event.

Archie was known for his sense of humor, smile, kindness and his Bostonian accent. He will be remembered for his quirky phrases, "Oh Yeah" "You Bet Ya" "That's All Right" "That's So Neat" and "Kiddo". He was a father, grandfather, brother and a friend to everyone he met. He had a special relationship with Jamie Dodd that will forever be cherished.

He is survived by one son, Philip Moore (Crystal) of Allen, Texas; two daughters, Edith Crump of Gloucester, Virginia and Angela Carter of Monroe, Michigan; one grandson, Langdon Moore of Derby, Kansas; one granddaughter, Faith Moore of Allen, Texas; one brother, Richard Moore (Kitty) of Merritt, North Carolina; one sister, Hazel Bell of Spring Hill, Florida; a nephew Jamie Bell and niece Connie Going; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends from Massachusetts to Florida.
