Funeral services for Arthur L. Baresel, 85, of Junction City, KS will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 1 p.m., Tuesday March 16, 2010 with Pastor Christian Schultz officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 15, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS. Mr. Baresel passed away at Geary Community Hospital March 10, 2010. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church,5805 Clarks Creek Road, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mr. Baresel was born February 25, 1925, Junction City, KS to Albert and Clara (Kramer) Baresel. He was baptized at St. Paul's and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Junction City, KS. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He served as President and Board Member at St. Paul's.
He graduated from Junction City High School in May 1943 and was drafted into the Army in June of that same year. He completed combat Engineer basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He served with the Engineer Corps in the European and Pacific theaters of operation and was discharged in March of 1946. He was awarded the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.
He married Eunice T. Hackler April 9, 1950 in Junction City at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. They have been married for 59 years.
He worked for Kansas Power and Light in Abilene for five years and was an agent for National Life and Accident Insurance Company in Junction City for 13 years before going to work with the Facility Engineers at Fort Riley, retiring in October 1990.
He is survived by his wife Eunice of the home, one daughter, Renee Baresel of Merriam, KS, one son, Thomas Baresel and wife Laura of Aurora, IN, granddaughter, Taylor Baresel, three sisters, Ella Walker of Lansing, MO, Esther Stanley of Colorado Springs, CO and Doris Lombardi of Peculiar, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Louise Ferris and Lorene Rupert and brother Paul Baresel.
