Funeral services for Arthur R. "Art" Horner, 81 of Junction City will be Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm at Penwell Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. Mr. Horner passed away on July 16, 2011 at his home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Junction City Junior Baseball Association, P.O. Box 777 Junction City, KS 664441.
Art was born November 23, 1929 in Detroit, KS to Joseph Raymond and Viola Millie (Kemp) Horner. His family moved to a farm south of Wakefield. He attended Madura Elementary Country School, south of Wakefield and then attended and graduated from Wakefield Rural High School in Wakefield with the class of 1949. He was then invited into the United States Army on September 25, 1951. After basic training he was sent to Korea. Arthur returned to the United States and was discharged on June 25, 1953. Arthur worked at the Walker Rock Quary near Milford, he was a truck driver and delivery for Carlson Truck Line and Topeka Motor Freight. He also worked several years at the Weside dairy. Arthur retired later from the Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home.
Arthur married Margaret E. (Ocamb) Chaney on July 19, 1963 in Tulsa, OK. She preceded him in death on December 11, 1999.
Arthur is survived by his younger brother, Jimmy W. Horner and wife Elaine of Glendale, AZ; two children Barbara Hartman and husband Gary of Henderson, NV and Ronald Chaney and wife Mary of Anthem, AZ; one brother-in-law; John R. Schultz and wife Gerry of Ft. Meyers, FL and one sister-in-law; Roberta Horner of Wakefield, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, older brother ; Leo R. Horner and three sisters; Kretta Schultz, Marie Lee and Shirley Fletcher; daughter Janice Morgan and a son Richard Chaney.
A private service will be held Wednesday morning in the Jimmy Horner home in Glendale, AZ by Pastor Darling of the Life in Christ Lutheran Church of Peoria, AZ.
