Arnold Ross "Tossie" Glessner, 82, of Junction City entered eternal rest on February 11, 2012. He passed away peacefully at his home. Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue with Pastor Jim Bond officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 5p.m. to 7p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been designated to the American Legion, 201 E. 4th Street, Junction City, KS 66441 and to the Fraternal Order of Eagles #830, 203 E. 10th Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
Arnold was born on December 29, 1929, Dwight, KS to Roy and Maude (Easter) Glessner. Arnold was one of eleven children and he was raised on a farm in rural Alta Vista. He graduated with the class of 1948 from Alta Vista High School.
Arnold was drafted in the U S Army in March of 1951, where he served one year and eleven months. The time was split between serving over seas in Korea on the front line and back home in America. He received the Korean Campaign ribbon with two battle stars and was honorably discharged as Corporal in December of 1952.
On January 3, 1954 Arnold married Shirley Bonita Shane. They had three children; Sidney, Cathie and Tyrone. Arnold and Shirley celebrated 50 years of marriage in January of 2004.
Arnold was employed for 26 years with the Geary County Highway Department and 23 years for the Army Corps of Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in June of 1997. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed refurbishing tractors and lawn mowers and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter Cathie Fultz and her husband James, son, Tyrone Glessner and his wife Sharon, his daughter-in-law Debbie Glessner, three grandchildren; Jasmine Keys and her husband Ron, Shane Glessner and his wife Teri and Keely Fultz; one great-grandchild Easton, his brothers; Harold (Bummy) Glessner and Roy Glessner, Jr. and his sisters; Della Hoffman and Lucille Carlton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley February 28, 2004, his son Sidney November 29, 2003.
