SFC (Retired) Antonio (Tony) Luis Hernandez, 68, of Junction City, died September 6, 2015 at St. Francis Medical Center in Topeka. Tony was born January 28, 1947 in Woodlake, Calif., the son of Regino (Sr.) and Mary Lou (Gutierrez) Hernandez. Tony attended schools in Woodlake, and graduated from Woodlake Union High School in 1965.
Tony joined the U.S. Army in the summer of 1965 and spent 20 years in the military, retiring in 1985 as a Sergeant First Class. After his retirement, he worked as a private contracting consultant for the Nuclear Power Plants.
Tony married Chang Ok Pyon on Feb. 11, 1970 in Seoul, South Korea. Survivors include: his wife Chang; 3 sons, Antonio Luis Hernandez, Jr. and Adam John Hernandez, both of Ottawa, and Alexander John Hernandez and his wife Jennifer, Pyeontaek, South Korea; a daughter, Antonette Marie Goodman and her husband Tyrone, Topeka; 2 brothers, Ray Hernandez and his wife Angie, and Jake Hernandez and his wife Mary; a sister Madeline Martinez, all of Visalia, Calif.; and 5 grandchildren. Tony was preceded in death by his parents.
A service will be held 6:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, followed by the family greeting friends until 8:00 p.m., all at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave., Junction City. Cremation will follow the service.
A memorial graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan, KS. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley.
