Antje (Omi) G. Meyer, 70, of Junction City, died peacefully on November 1,
2015 surrounded by loving family in her home. Antje was born on Dec. 3, 1944 in
Bayreuth, Germany, the daughter of Alfred and Marga (Becker) Plaumann. Antje
completed trade school in Germany and earned her beautician license. Antje
married the love of her life, Wilfried G. Meyer on December 18, 1962 in
Heidelberg, Germany. The U.S. Army brought her family to the Junction City/Ft.
Riley area in 1970, then again to Ft. Riley in 1978, where her husband retired.
Antje drove a Special Education School Bus for USD 475 in Junction City for 4
years and later owned and operated A&A Yarn Shop in Junction City. In her spare
time, she loved to garden, knit projects, bake everyone's favorite birthday cake,
cook for various events and functions, volunteer for the local community and
hospital, participate in team bowling, but most of all she cherished spending
quality time with her grandkids and great grandkids.
Antje was a member of the First Christian Church and was very active in
Junction City. She was a member of the German/American club, served as
President of Earl C. Gormley Post #45 of the American Legion Ladies
Auxilary; served as an officer of the Junction City/Ft. Riley Women's Bowling
Assn.; and volunteered at Geary Community Hospital. In 2014, she was named
Volunteer of the Year of the hospital. Just this year Antje was presented with the
Grand Duchess award of the Kansas State Women's Bowling Association.
Her lifelong husband, Wilfried (Opi), survives. Other survivors include: a
daughter, Claudia K. Boyles and her husband Marty, Garden City; a son, Wilfried
K. Meyer, Junction City; a brother, Klaus Plaumann of Dossenheim,Germany; a
sister, Sieglinde Feigenbutz also of Dossenheim, Germany; 8 grandchildren; and
4 great-grandchildren. Antje was preceded in death by her parents, a
granddaughter, Andrea Boyles, and a sister Marlies Dirnberger.
Antje made arrangements for anatomical donation of her body to the
University of Kansas Medical Center, so students (like her grandkids and great
grandkids), as Antje (Omi) would say " can learn something from this mess."
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at the First
Christian Church in Junction City, with Pastor Ronnie Roberts presiding.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Earl C. Gormley Post #45 of the
American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with the donation process.
