Andrea Jeanette Junghans, 62, of Junction City, passed away Nov. 3, 2003 at her residence. Visitation will be Wed., Nov. 5, 2003, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Funeral service will be held Thurs., Nov. 6, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Reverend Tim Shellenbach will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Andrea was born Dec. 20, 1940, in Clay Center, daughter of Russell and MaryAnn (Carpenter) Thurlow. She was raised on a farm outside Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1958. Andrea then attended Airline Personnel School in Omaha, NE graduating in 1959. Following graduation, she returned to Wakefield to help care for ill family members. In February of 1959, she became the bookkeeper and secretary for KJCK AM Radio. Andrea married Frederick Junghans April 23, 1961 at Zoar Methodist Church near her home outside of Wakefield, he survives of Junction City.
Andrea and her husband then established the Junghans Family Farm east of Junction City, where they raised cattle, hogs, and crops. Andrea continued to work through their first year of marriage at KJCK, and then left to help her husband farm. In 1972, their son Kyle was born, followed by their daughter, Alicia, in 1974. Andrea became a stay at home mom until her children started college. She then worked until she retired in Dec. 2002 due to illness. Andrea bravely battled breast cancer since 1990 and continued to be strong throughout the entire process. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her mother, MaryAnn Thurlow of rural Wakefield; one son, Kyle Junghans of Junction City; one daughter, Alicia Hattey of Caledonia, MI; one brother, David Thurlow of rural Wakefield; and three grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her father.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be given in Andrea's name to The Home Care and Hospice, 323 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502, and/or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 5805 Clarks Creek Rd., Junction City, KS 66441, and/or the Wakefield Museum, 605 6th St., Wakefield, KS 67487.
