Services for Alvina Zernickow Zeckser, 91,of Junction City, Kansas will be held at Johnson Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at 10:00 a.m.
Pastor Brad Seifert of the Highland Baptist Church will officiate. Alvina died November 16, 2002 at the Valley View Professional Care Center. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 19, 2002, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery, Geary County, Kansas. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Open Door, 136 W. 3rd. St., Junction City, Kansas 66441, and/or Highland Baptist Church, 1407 St. Mary's Rd., Junction City, Kansas 66441, and/or Donor's Choice. Alvina was born June 28, 1911, at Geary County, KS; known as the High Prairie Community to Wilhelm K. and Lena M.(Henning) Zernickow. Alvina attended the High Prairie school through the eighth grade, and then went on to graduate from Junction City High School in 1929. She also attended the School of Business, a commercial course given that summer in Junction City, Kansas. Alvina married Alvin F. Zeckser April 28, 1937 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church; he preceded her in death June 5, 1988. Alvina worked for a while at the Junction City Chamber of Commerce and later on at Ft. Riley. Alvina was the church pianist for both Mt. Zion & Highland Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Dorcas Society and served as President and Treasurer, The Highlands Women's Missionary, Woman's Christian Temperance Union she joined in 1957, she had been it's President (Woodbine Chapter, elected 1968) for 11 + years. She made herself a life member of the Worlds WCTU and also the National Organization. She was a member of the Geary County Historical Society and the Herington Historical Society in May 1984. Alvina also enjoyed singing solos at various events. Survivors: One Daughter: Martha Oberkfell of Alton, IL; Two Grandchildren: David Lee
