Alvin M. Norman, 70, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at his home. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2015, at the Second Missionary Baptist Church. The burial of cremated remains will follow the memorial service at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation will be held Thursday evening August 13, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel 805 Caroline Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Alvin Seigh Norman Educational Fund.
Alvin was born September 13, 1944 in Michigan to Oscar S. Norman and Mai E.Johnson. He joined the United States Army and during this time he was able to travel many countries, he retired from the Army March 31, 1994. He then worked Civil Service and retired in 2009.
Alvin was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church, the VFW Post #8773 and served as Post Commander from 2006-2008, He was District Commander in 1999-2000. Al was a member of the original Color Guard for the Post. He was also a member of Military Order of the Cooties and was Kansas Past Grand Commander (MOC) in 2002-2003 and again in 2008-2009 and Captain of the All Star for the year that he served, he was a member of Fayum Temple #209, Manhattan, KS, Nathan W. Thatcher Consistory #107, Manhattan, KS and Past Master of Denver Star #34 Masonic Lodge, Salina, KS.
He enjoyed his volunteer work, cooking his African dishes, dancing, meeting people, being social and telling his stories. He will be greatly missed by his family, Comrades and his Brothers and Sisters.
Alvin is survived by his wife Jacqueline and son, Alvin Seigh Norman both of Junction City, KS. His children from his first marriage, a daughter, Alvina Norman and two sons, Vanjah Norman (Barbie) and Boimah Norman (Rose) and his five grandchildren, Phillip, Aaron, Brandon, Jordan and Peyton. He is also survived by his siblings, Laurence (Christine); Zoe; Eric (Louise); Danlette; Keturah Sebu; Ray; Cecelia; Nannie Johnson (Val); Famata; Pete (Theresa); Jebeh Klah (Richard; Jaak (Rita).
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Oscar Jr., Ben and Revel, one sister, Laura and his brother-in-law, Emmanuel.
