A Mass of Christian Burial for Allen K. Puhr, 73, of Junction City, KS will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Mr. Puhr passed away at his home on April 25, 2010 after a long illness. Memorial contributions have been designated to Homecare and Hospice, c/o Geary Community Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS 66441 and St. Xavier Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mr. Puhr was born May 23, 1936 Overland Park, KS to Antone J. and Lucille (Dunlap) Puhr. He joined the U S Army January 30, 1956 serving in Vietnam. He received the Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal (2nd Award), Purple Heart, Silver Star, Sharpshooter (M-16 Rifle)and the Army Commendation Medal. He retired from the U S Army February 29, 1976. He then worked for Contract Services as a mechanic until fully retiring.
While serving in the U S Army he married Gisella A. Krischke March 25, 1959 at Baumholder, Germany.
He is survived by his wife Gisella of the home, daughter; Theresa A. Gestewitz and husband Jerry of Atlanta, GA, son; Allen K. Puhr, Jr. and wife Louise of Junction City, KS, two grandchildren; Tobias Howard and Amanda Puhr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Linda L. Puhr which passed away in 1985.
