Alfred R. Phillips
Alfred R. Phillips, 83, of Junction City, died Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Alfred was born November 12, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Samuel and Myrtle (Williams) Phillips. He attended schools in Indianapolis and entered the U.S. Army while still living in Indianapolis.
Alfred spent a 24 year career in the military, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1982. He was stationed in Thailand, Vietnam, and Germany, as well as Ft. Riley, Ft. Leavenworth, and Ft. Hood, Texas.
Alfred enjoyed the "Great Outdoors", especially, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Alfred married Inge Becker on November 27, 1957 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She survives of the home. Other survivors include: a son, Marcus Phillips and his wife Cathy, Biedershausen, Germany; 2 daughters, Ravena Humbert and her husband Jerry, Manhattan, and Andrea Wolf and her husband Chuck, Indianapolis, Indiana; 5 grandchildren, Richard Phillips, Jared Humbert, Elijah Phillips, Olga Dinopoulou, and Cassie Dee Thompson; and a cousin, Warner Crow, in Alabama.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Ashland Cemetery, on McDowell Creek Road, south of Manhattan, with Pastor James Hagemeister presiding.
