Funeral services 1SGT Jimmie L. Alexander, Sr. (Ret), 84, Junction City will be 10:00am, Tuesday November 7, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel with Chaplain D. Erich Schwartz officiating.Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Riley Cemetery. Mr. Alexander passed away October 29, 2006 at Sumner Regional Health Center in Wellington, KS. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm Monday, November 6, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, 512 SE 25th Avenue, Pratt, KS 67214, to be given to The Milford Fish Hatchery.
Jimmie was born August 11, 1922 in Manchaca, TX the son of Manson and Georgia (Bryant) Alexander. He attended schools in Austin, TX. He enter the US Army January 1943 serving until December 1966 retiring as First Sergeant, E-8. He served in Field Artillery. He served in Europe and Asia. 1SGT Alexander received the following decorations, Bronze Star for combat action in Vietnam, Good Conduct Medal with six clusters, Word War II Victory Medal, European Theater Medal with two stars(Rhineland and Central Europe), Occupation of Germany (four tours), and the Vietnamese Campaign Medal.
Jimmie was an avid fisherman.
He married Maria Dunkl in 1953 in Berlin, Germany. She preceded him in death July 16, 1994.
Survivors include three daughters, Monika Burns, Cold Spring, KY, Romana Dawson and Jeanette Alexander, both of Junction City, KS; son, Jimmie L. Alexander, Jr. Round Rock, TX, four grandsons, and 5 granddaughters, one great grandson and 5 great granddaughters; a brother, Horace Alexander and sister Christine Patton.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Earl Alexander, and George Crenshaw, and a sister Sarah Biggs.
