1SG (RET) Robert G. Escott, 97, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023 at Valley View Senior Life. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Legion Post #45, 201 E 4th Street, Junction City, Kansas, 66441 or to the 70th IDA Scholarship Fund C/O Monica Weddle, 509 Rifle Range Road # 37, Iowa Park, Texas, 76367.
Robert was born March 4, 1926, in Clinton, Michigan to Lawrence and Sarah (Spraul) Escott. He grew up and graduated from high school in Clinton, Michigan.
He entered the Army on May 10, 1944, in Fort Sheridan, Illinois and served 26 years in the Army with tours in Europe during World War II, three tours in Korea, one tour in Vietnam, and two tours in Japan. Robert married Asako Iwamoto in Yokohama, Japan on March 8, 1956. He retired from the Army on May 31, 1970 in Fort Lewis, Washington. After which, he worked at Mobile Traveler from 1970-1990. He lived in Junction City since 1965.
Bob, as he was affectionately known, was a member of the American Legion Post #45 Junction City. He received two Bronze Star Medals, a Combat Infantry Badge with Star, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak leaf (ARCOMM), and other various medals. On his 97th birthday, he became a proud recipient of a Quilt of Valor. He was most proud of being a member of his 1st unit in WWII the 70th Infantry Division C Company.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Ronald; one sister, Ruth; one son, Robert Jr.; one daughter, Susan; and his beloved wife, Asako, who passed in 2020. He is survived by one sister Rena (Herb) Davis of West Branch, Michigan; one son Leroy (Vanessa) of Fort Payne, Alabama; two daughters from his first marriage, Roberta (Al) Roman of Olympia,Washington and Christa Roberts of Spanaway, Washington; along with six grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
