1SG (RET) Fred Nobles, 69, of Junction City, KS passed away at Valley View Senior Life Center on March 27, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue. Burial will follow with full military honors at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Visitation will be April 2, 2013 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at the Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 4125 SW Gage Center Dr., Ste. LL-15, Topeka, KS 66601.
Fred was born April 6, 1943, Laurel, MS to Katy Mae Nobles. He joined the Army February 3, 1965, Jackson, MS, he received the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal w/Bronze Star, Army Lapel Button, Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), NCO Professional Development Ribbon "1", Overseas Service Ribbon "4", Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Driver/Mechanic Badge w/ Bar and the Expert (M16 Rifle) Badge. He retired from the Army September 30, 1991 at Fort Riley, KS.
Fred enjoyed fishing, baseball and football.
He married Jean Moody April 15, 1965, Laurel, MS she survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Michele Smith of Junction City, KS and Melanie McDonald (Shawn) of Fort Polk, LA, four brothers, Bobby Coleman (Clara), Clarence Coleman, Jimmy Coleman (Lucille) and Charles Coleman all of Laurel, MS, one sister, Shirley Chisholm also of Laurel, MS, ten grandchildren, Drea Nobles, Ashley Nobles, Marquitta Walker, Latifah Carpenter, Michael Carpenter, Janae McDonald, Yasmeen Smith, Timothy Smith, Jr., Jasmine Nobles and Jalyssa Nobles and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Michael Nobles, two sisters, Carolyn Coleman and Mary Coleman and his brother, Tommy Coleman.
